About us

Tomo No Kai (Tomo) is a Japanese/Japanese-American social and cultural club. Established at the University of California Irvine in 1977, Tomo No Kai roughly translates to “Circle of Friends”. We embody inclusivity and provide an environment where one can find their second home and everlasting bonds. We strive to teach everyone about Japanese Culture with our weekly Japanese Info sessions as well as practices and performances of traditional entertainment acts, which can be seen in our annual spring quarter Cultural Night. Every Thursday at 6PM in the Cross Cultural Center, Tomo holds general meetings to inform members on the latest events and news for that week, and afterwards, we drive our members to various hotspots for food and fun bonding activities. We also pride ourselves in our involvement with the wider Japanese community through volunteer work and events. Please feel free to speak with any present cabinet member for more information and stay updated by following our Facebook and Instagram!
